RETIREMENT OPENS DOOR TO NEW BUSINESS

When Shawn Twigge retired from a career in the oil and gas sector, he knew in his heart that he still needed something to do. He also knew that to enjoy this next stage of his life, whatever he did, he must be passionate about it.

Taking The Time To Do It Right

As a person who always liked to work on small engines, quads, or whatever, he was quick to lean on these skills when thinking about starting a business. Often called upon to repair appliances for family or friends, it didn’t take a lot of market research to know that this type of service was needed in the Lac La Biche region. Twigs Appliance Repair was born after a couple of years to set things up, including taking the appropriate courses and attaining the necessary credentials online.

While starting a new business is always a bit stressful, after nine short months of operation, Shawn is proud to say he has completed more than 350 jobs and is never short of work. “Office work and ordering parts take about three hours each day,” says Twigge, “with another six to eight hours out on call.”

Reuse, Recycle, Make Affordable

One of Shawn’s favourite activities is purchasing and reconditioning appliances in need of repair that might otherwise be discarded and making them available to those who can’t or don’t want to afford new ones.

Shawn’s advice to recent retirees or anyone thinking of starting a new business is straightforward. “Do something you like.” When you can match that with something needed in the community, you have the perfect formula for success.

The best way to contact Shawn for your appliance repair needs is to leave a message on his phone. Call 780-259-0115 or message him through Twig’s Appliance Repair Facebook page.
